Disability Advocacy means being responsibility to stand beside people with disabilities by assisting them to advocate their own interest. There are many ways to do this, but the first step is to increase awareness of what living with a disability is all about. From there we can build social or work programs that elevate all individuals regardless of abilities or disabilities.
Disability Advocacy Media
The links in the below section are designed to help those in an advocacy role (even if yourself). By taking it one step at a time, it becomes easy to nurture and strengthen your advocacy approach.
Some links are for the individual with a disability, while others are targeted to family members, friends, co-workers, and employers. Select links represent Victoria’s personal view, while others are the ‘best of printed or internet media’.
Just as every disability is unique, so is every advocacy approach. Therefore, if you don’t agree with something here, simply disregard that notion and keep what works for your situation.
